Almost Dhs200 million worth of fake goods – including the latest smartphones and designer sunglasses – have been discovered in one of the biggest seizures of its kind.
Dubai Economic Department (DED) investigators carried out raids on warehouses in which some 3.5 million items were found.
Investigators on Wednesday said they are shifting their focus from cracking down on individual stores to targeting importers who sell fakes in bulk.
Mohammed Ali Rashed Lootah, executive director of the Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection (CCCP) section, said: “Now we are starting to concentrate on wholesellers and importers. If we go up the supply chain and concentrate on the source… it will have a bigger effect in the long run.”
